What is Tralhão?
Tua Valley wines derives its quality from a very unique confluence of climate and geology. The region is bordered by Tua River and has transition soils from schist to granite with altitudes from 80meters to 650 in just a couple of meters. This situation creates an extraordinary mix of cool climate during nights and the hottest during the Day, for Douro, that moderates Douro's late season heat spikes, producing intense wines with beautiful balance.

Our vineyards have been carefully selected to highlight the unique conditions found in these geologically diverse mountains. Each of our 15 plots is located on a unique and completely different geology, scope, orientation or planted variety. It is fascinating to taste how these conditions produce such distinctive and different wines.

The Tralhão Estate extends for a total of 30ha, with 12ha of Vineyards in the confluence of Pombal de Ansiães, Brunheda (Pinhal do Norte) and south Sobreira the 3 localities which represent the best vineyards within the Tua Valley: It should be named the gold triangle, certainly for white wines and anyone will be surprised with the red one's too.

Although the Tua Valley extends up north of Douro through an impressive landscape of deep valleys which extends over 25km only the last 8km's between km 17th and 25th of the former Tua railway have minimum slopes for the presence of vineyards. The Tralhão vineyards extend from km 18 through km 21 and represents one of the most representative and biggest property in this very specific Douro sub-region with its old vines, the “eldest” with more than 20 years old, both from red and white varieties.
